The Artec Leo Scanner For Leak Repair

At My Engineering, LTD, we’ve worked with multiple scanners for leak repair issues. Some have included Creaform, Leica, Faro, and others, but the most effective and versatile scanner has consistently been the Artec Leo.

The Artec Leo is the only wholly wireless and self-contained professional 3D scanner designed to make scanning as straightforward as possible. It's the ultimate all-in-one 3D scanning solution for fast, accurate, and high-quality data capture, with the new NVIDIA Jetson TX2 processor inside, as well as a 5" HD built-in display and battery. It also has more than twice the power of the previous model and ensures accuracy at every step of the process, ensuring success from the outset.

But the Artec Leo goes beyond just these specs, which we’d like to cover why we have chosen this scanner as our top choice for leak repair.

Firstly, the Artec Leo operates at a safe distance of 0.35-1.2 meters away from whatever object is scanned. That means if there is a leak or defect that could be releasing hazardous material, the operator remains at a safe distance while still being able to operate the scanner properly. It is also wholly wireless even when employed in the field, reducing tripping hazards and allowing the operator to scan without worrying about cords or plugs.

Next, the Artec Leo is fast, super fast. With a frame rate of up to eighty frames per second, Leo’s scanning is as fast as recording a video. In many cases, technicians can be done scanning within ten minutes or less. Data transfer is also quick and easy! The Artec Leo can upload data directly from its scanner’s touchscreen straight to a cloud server. Once uploaded, this data can be shared with third parties (such as ourselves), with no loss of speed or data or any data corruption. Check out our scanning demonstration here!

Another benefit we saw to the Artec Leo over other systems is that no dots are required. This setup means that setup-to-scan times are minimized, and there are no surface temperature limitations to object scanning. Competing scanners, such as the Creaform Handyscan, typically use dots that start to melt at temperatures over five hundred degrees Fahrenheit.

The Artec Leo also has perfect resolution and accuracy. With resolutions up to 0.2mm, we can perfectly capture details for any design we are working with while not making the mesh size too large. Even the accuracy, pinpointing up to 0.1mm, is perfect for leak repair. This system also has proven, reliable results. We have worked with data from Leo scanners hundreds of times across multiple systems, and the results always work. Furthermore, we’ve trained many technicians on operating these scanners, with similar across-the-board outcomes.

And finally, the Artec Leo has both longevity and simplicity on its side. All Leo scanners we have worked with have been subject to some of the harshest conditions imaginable without any signs of failure. With proper use, these scanners only need maintenance once a year. And if you can operate an iPhone, you can run these super easy-to-navigate scanners.
